The Guardian's preview of the Christmas special.

No big spoilers in terms of plot, but some details of who will be in it and what will be different about it. Incidentally, it sounds quite good.
Item 1: some very specific idea of what will be in the Christmas episode (spoilers for the plot): here.

Item 2: Also, I've been thinking vaguely about the future of this community and the fact it's on Livejournal. More than happy to continue the community here, but just wondering how many people here are using Dreamwidth or Tumblr now. It would obviously be very easy to set up a community exactly like this one on Dreamwidth, but I would want an idea of whether people here are on Dreamwidth as well or whether it would be a different crowd.

As for Tumblr, there's no mechanism for a "community" type thing there, but I could certainly set up a blog and allow people to submit things to it. The main drawback to Tumblr is that obviously anyone can reblog something and put any comments they like under it, so that may defeat one of the stated aims of this community (to provide a refuge from "haterz" I suppose). And obviously you can ask questions on Tumblr and have people answer them, but there's nothing to stop people giving nasty answers. I would have to look into it more.

What do people think?
Title: The Damage
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mewiet
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Tabetha Pond, Brian Williams, and River Song/Melody Pond III
Pairings: Tabetha/Augustus (mentioned), The Doctor/River (mentioned), and Amy/Rory (mentioned)
Summary: Brian Williams is not the only one left grieving for his lost child: what about Tabetha and Augustus Pond? Several years after Amy's and Rory's disappearances, Tabetha is still waiting for an answer about what became of her little Amelia Pond. Will she ever find out the truth?
Warnings/Spoilers: Spoilers for "The Angels Take Manhattan."
Author's Notes: So after "The Angels Take Manhattan," there was a giant influx of Brian Williams fics. It literally jumped from two to thirty-one in a manner of days. Most of them involve either The Doctor and/or River telling Brian what happened and Brian finally getting to meet his granddaughter. So if you're anything like me, you now have a pretty good idea of how River and Brian meet. But, what about Tabetha and Augustus? They knew about The Doctor too, but they never got to travel with him. Yet nobody's writing fics about how they are dealing with the Ponds' disappearance. Well, now someone is (it started out as a one-shot and turned into a two-shot, imagine that!), and that's your spoiler warning for 7x05 if for some crazy reason you haven't seen it yet.

"I used to make them for my d-d-aughter…she hated apples so I drew faces into them so she would eat them." Tabetha watched Melody reach for one of the Dixie cups of caramel sauce as if in a trance. "Amy took after her father, ever the sweet tooth." Another laugh came, though this time a bit less on the bitter side. "I used to tease him by saying he was my very own Augustus Gloop." )
Title: Rule One
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mewiet
Rating: PG-13
Characters: River Song/Melody Pond III, The Eleventh Doctor, and Amy Pond
Pairings: The Doctor/River and Amy/Rory (mentioned)
Summary: In the midst of searching for Rory, River gets touched by an Angel. Will the consequences be deadly?
Warnings/Spoilers: MASSIVE SPOILERS for next week's "The Angels Take Manhattan."
Author's Notes: Basically, a preview was released today from the Space channel with a lot of River Song footage. Someone took a screencap of it (which I got here, but it's not mine and I don't know who actually capped it: the picture is under the cut!), and that inspired me to write this ficlet. I'm probably completely way off base with what's actually going on in the cap, but the moment itself is very odd and very potentially spoilerific (as is the whole preview if you want to go out and find it). Now, with that out of the way, here we are…

"You're not always the answer!" she snarled. "Sometimes – sometimes you're the problem!" )
Title: Second Chances
Author:
[livejournal.com profile] mewiet
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: Amy Pond, The Gunslinger, Eleventh Doctor (cameo), and Rory Pond (cameo)
Rating: PG-13
Warnings/Spoilers: This is a missing scene from the end of yesterday's "A Town Called Mercy," so spoilers for 7x03!

Summary: This is a missing scene from the end of "A Town Called Mercy," in which Amy uses their shared experiences as products of war to convince The Gunslinger that he is worth more to the world alive than he is dead.

Ginger locks whipped around Amy’s shoulders as she vehemently shook her head. “A pile of debris littering the desert is an end with a chilling reminder. It’s no more a fresh start than a string of bodies that you just up and walk away from. We’re both a product of war, my friend, and I can promise you: this isn’t the right way.” )
Post your comments and reactions here. There will be spoilers in the comments, although I think it's safe to say there will be dinosaurs and also a spaceship in this without anyone getting too upset.

BBC1 - 7.35pm

Title: No Time Like The Present
Author:
[livejournal.com profile] mewiet
Fandom: Doctor Who
Pairing: Amy/Rory, The Doctor/River (mentioned)
Characters: Amy Pond and the Ood (cameo)
Rating: PG
Warnings/Spoilers: This takes place between webisodes four and five of Pond Life. So spoilers for Pond Life and it also alludes to a mjor plot point in "Asylum of the Daleks."

Summary: Amy sits at her breakfast table on morning in early August of 2014 and reflects on the past three years since her daughter was stolen from her arms and contemplates River, The Doctor, Rory, and their future.

Author's Note: This was inspired by a Tumblr post I saw about The Doctor having chosen a house for Amy and Rory that's right across the street from a playground.

Sometimes Amy would catch him staring out the window in the evenings. One day last winter she'd even caught him taking some carrots and scarves outside to the kids building snow people by the swing set. They'd thanked him by dubbing the snow couple Mr. and Mrs. Frozen Pond. Still, Rory never broached the subject, and certainly never pressured her about children. He was The Boy Who Waited, after all, and she knew he would wait for her as long as it took until she wanted to try again. )

There's a video on Youtube, for those that like that sort of thing.

I suppose if anyone wants we could discuss the cultural significance and that? I'd be genuinely interested in the views of people who aren't horrifically cynically about the Olympics like I am...
Basically: we rewatch season 5. We do one episode a week. We all go away and watch it in our own spare time (on DVD or via the interweb or iTunes or iPads or whatever it is that you do) and then we come back here and we talk about it, heap praise on it or slag it off.

Who's up for it? Feel free to drag in people who aren't in the community, because there will certainly be episodes along the way where I don't have nice things to say (*cough* Cold Blood *cough*).

Then if that all goes well, we watch season 6. And by then we're pretty much in Autumn and could possibly be trusted to occupy ourselves until season 7 starts. Probably.
As you've probably heard, the new companion has been announced. The details are here (along with hints about Amy and Rory's exit). Fandom seems to have done its usual thing with this news, so rather than create another pointless thread asking what we all think of a companion we haven't seen in action yet (hint: the correct answer is "nothing because I haven't seen her in action yet"), I thought I would ask what your current favourite crazy comment has been about the casting of Jenna Louise Coleman.

NOTE: Please do not link to people's blogs or posts or mention their names directly. Feel free to directly quote them though.
Interview with Stephen Moffat at the Guardian on both Who and Sherlock.. It's a few days old and probably everyone has read it by now, but it's still interesting.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/2012/jan/20/steven-moffat-sherlock-doctor-who

On Who storylines: "I get irritated when people say on Twitter: 'It's too complicated. I'm not following it.' Well, you could try putting your phone down and watching it."

On the xmas special: "I was called a misogynist because I was reducing women to mothers. 'Reducing women to mothers' – now there is possibly the most anti-women statement I've heard."

The prequel for the Christmas special is available on the official site:

My thoughts are in the comments because Livejournal is playing silly beggars and won't let me do a cut.
Just in case you've missed it, Moffat has now quashed the rumours of a Hollywood movie.

I know who I believe, but it does make you wonder what David Yates was playing at. Perhaps he really wants to do a Who movie and believed that fan interest following his statements would help such a movie get made?
So I'm sure by now you've all seen and ranted about this elsewhere, and it's slightly off-topic given that this is supposed to be MOFFAT era Who we discuss here, but what the hey.

What are your thoughts on this here news?

And this typically Moffat-esque tweet?
Comments, thoughts and reactions here, please. Spoilers in the comments.
