I went for similar quality. I prefered Series 5 to Series 6 part 1, but I preffered Series 6 Part 2 to 5.

I thought season 6 was slightly better. I tend to think about seasons in terms of how many episodes there were that I will never watch again. There were 4 of these in season 5 and only 3 in season 6. Plus, I found the non-Moffat scripted episodes in s6 were of a higher quality.

I prefer season 6, definitely. I like them both but I adore River, and the more of her, the happier I am!

Season 5 had nothing on the Impossible Astronaut, or on The God Complex or The Girl Who Waited. It definitely had its moments, but...

My brother said "I thought 5 was much better, but then the season finale for 6 made all of season 6 better."

I see where he's coming from, and I think that I agree with his sentiment, but I thought season 5 was consistently better, even though my favorite moments have been in 6... if that makes any sense...

I'm not sure. I think they're of similar quality, though 6 does have more River. I'm sentimental toward 5 because it was the first time I watched a full season as it was being aired.

I think 6 was "much better" than 5. Then again I happen to think the last two series have been much better than the previous "specials" and series 4. Honestly, I was just looking for a change in Who's direction (far away from God!Doctor) and Moffat has given me that! He has given me back My Doctor. :D

I want to say that six was both better and worse . . . I think five was more consistent overall and hung together better and I feel a warm glow whenever I think on it. But then some of the things that six accomplished are just so spectacular, as are so many of the individual episodes, and I have to applaud the sheer audacity of it all. Still, six had some serious holes, so on balance I'll say they come out about even.

Interesting. Last night, season 6 seemed to be doing better in the poll, this afternoon it's season 5 that's ahead. I wonder if this change might be to do with poll being mentioned outside this community?
