Yes I didn't know what to make of it all really. There were bits I liked and quite a lot of "meh" up until the ending, which actually had me wondering for a second if they were accidentally playing next week's episode as well.
This concerns me: if the Doctor has now done his farewell tour, didn't quite a lot of his documented association with River occur in that time? Assuming the Doctor doesn't get killed off for good next week (just a crazy idea I have), is there anywhere left for River to go other than the library?
There were a few lines I liked, like Craig and The Doctor being "Not Mum" to the baby but generally it didn't interest me. I was a bit like: 'oh not another dad and his little boy'. The father son sentimentality was predictable. Also it pissed me off that Craig could ward off the Cyberwhatever when thousands before him couldn't. I'm pretty sure most of their victims will have had children they loved just as much. I found the Amy Rory cameo cheesy. I laughed out loud when the cybermat was in the house and it went for Craig and the Doctor leapt through the patio doors. It was fun, cuz it's Doctor Who, but it wasn't anything special.
I'm confused by the River thing. For them to be as close as they seem they have to do more together surely? I was kind of hoping she'd be his next companion next season as a different actor, but that hope was quashed a few weeks back. I'd like to think the Library isn't her next stop, I want to see more of her.
A lot of those others probably had families yes, but I wonder how many of them had children crying for them within ear shot. Part of it could also be put down to shoddy materials in use after the crash/mechanical entropy from time.
In the Cybermen episodes I've seen, the humans are rounded up en masse. They're not converted to Cybermen one at a time, the Cybermen are too efficient for that. So I'd think that a lot of people would be hearing their loved ones screaming and crying.
But the shoddy materials thing I can go definitely go with.
If there were a lot of people gathered together, how would you separate your child/loved ones cry from all the others? It wouldn't have the same effect in that chaos as hearing the voice of your child screaming for you, knowing that what you are hearing is that child's cry.
But for what it's worth I'm leaning heavily towards the lack of numbers/run down beat up tech.
I'm hoping that we'll get to see some of it from Rivers POV. It would be great if we could get younger Doc back but either way, POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD
if we're going to get more Amy and Rory (Which casting rumors have it we will) next season I would be pissed as hell if we didn't get any more River.
Having given it some thought, I've decided the good outweighed the bad in that episode. I particularly liked the scene with the Doctor and the baby and all the stars and the general sense of doom about the Doctor's impending death. It was a little bit Logopolis, only with Cybermen (and to be honest, I think the Autons would have been a better fit here).
