I was late to the party with the Is Doctor Who sexist? post awhile back, so I thought I'd repost this so people will have a decent chance of seeing it.
I follow Moffat on twitter, and a while back he tweeted addressing some quotes including this: "There’s this issue you’re not allowed to discuss: that women are needy. Men can go for longer, more happily, without women. That’s the truth. We don’t, as little boys, play at being married - we try to avoid it for as long as possible. Meanwhile women are out there hunting for husbands."
His responses: Oh, That's where it's all coming from, been wondering. I remember that interview - never said any of that, nor do I think it. & he clarifies Probably a Coupling interview. They always took the characters views and gave them to ME. Which is why I only talk in jokes now.
I personally found those two tweets made a lot of sense, since I never thought his writing seemed consistent with the (apparently misconstrued) quote. Just thought I'd share in case it might help clarify things for anyone else.
