I was late to the party with the Is Doctor Who sexist? post awhile back, so I thought I'd repost this so people will have a decent chance of seeing it.
I follow Moffat on twitter, and a while back he tweeted addressing some quotes including this: "There’s this issue you’re not allowed to discuss: that women are needy. Men can go for longer, more happily, without women. That’s the truth. We don’t, as little boys, play at being married - we try to avoid it for as long as possible. Meanwhile women are out there hunting for husbands."
His responses: Oh, That's where it's all coming from, been wondering. I remember that interview - never said any of that, nor do I think it. & he clarifies Probably a Coupling interview. They always took the characters views and gave them to ME. Which is why I only talk in jokes now.
I personally found those two tweets made a lot of sense, since I never thought his writing seemed consistent with the (apparently misconstrued) quote. Just thought I'd share in case it might help clarify things for anyone else.

Date: 2011-06-05 11:32 pm (UTC)From:As I wrote in that post, I do think Doctor Who is sexist, not chomping on the scenery and kicking the dog sexist but still sexist, and the tweets you quoted do nothing to make me think better of him, he comes off as dismissive in a way that makes me more concerned, not less.

I personally didn't think it came off as dismissive, don't know if having the context will change your mind or not.
