I'll be honest, that wasn't my favourite episode. I didn't think it was a massive failure, but not a massive success either. It was enjoyable enough (up until the last five or ten minutes) but I don't think I'll ever watch it again. I'm not a fan of those "love conquers all" endings - they're just not my thing.
The dolls had potential to be creepy villains and the costume design for them was good, but by the time they were being fought off by big scissors and a mop, I thought they had lost any sense of danger.
There were some nice Doctor moments in it, but the ending with the song and the close-up of the Doctor's death date again almost felt like an apology: "we know this wasn't the best episode, but keep watching because we still have to resolve all that other stuff, remember?"
I loved this weeks episode it is very remisicing of the "Empty Child" I think what I liked the most is that Eleven works so well with kids. I so what to have his babies. LOL
Anyhoo I think the episode was very good and I enjoyed it a bunch.
I now have internet so now I can squee. I actually enjoyed this episode. I liked that they were stuck in the dolls house. I liked the slow clues to where they were. I loved some of the effects like the speed of the lift going down with Amy and Rory trapped in it. I liked the tone and feel of the first half. It felt claustrophobic and creepy, but unfortunately it lost that about halfway through. And I liked the concept that the kid was a cuckoo from outer space.
I liked the dolls at first, but at some point they became less scary. I think they could have done with moving in a more creaky doll-like way instead of having fully working human joints that made it too obvious they were people dressed up and not terrifying soul-stealing dolls.
What niggled me though was after all the plots surrounding River. And the significance of who she is, not just to Amy and Rory as their child, but to the Doctor too. Was that she wasn't mentioned once. I think all it need was a passing comment about her. "Ho hum, I wonder what she's up to OH SHIT A GIANT DOLL." Or something.
