From May this year:
Steven Moffat Outs River Song as Bisexual
There are probably more in-depth news stories, but I posted this one because you can still see the text of Moffat's tweet in it.
I'm a crap fan, I missed it completely.

Date: 2012-09-22 01:57 am (UTC)From:A) She first appeared in the 51st Century, the same as Jack, where we know that everyone is sexually liberal and 21st Century sexual mores have no ground
B) She told Lux that she fancied everyone but him (there were males and females)
C) Moffat talked about how River's whole archaeology team in SitL/FotD (including River) probably have sexual relationships (not technically canon since it was in the DVD commentary, but it still shows he was thinking of her as bi way back then so it wasn't an "OMG let's make her bi for luls!" thing he just came up with recently)
D) She alluded to snogging Cleopatra
I was actually pretty shocked when he started getting crap for not explicitly having her state "I'm attracted to women too!" in the show. Not every bi woman ends up with a woman. Sometimes they even are more often attracted to men than women, but that doesn't mean that they aren't still attracted to women and aren't bi. Of course he can't win, because there are people who will also say that he's turned her into a bi female stereotype because of her references to liking everyone but Lux and therefore "bi women shag everyone." But erm...she spent a good portion of her life in the 51st/52nd Centuries. Both growing up (as a child in her first incarnation and at Lunda University) and in Stormcage, not to mention after she got out if SitL/FotD is anything to go by. So it makes sense she'd be influenced by the sexual views of that time. If she and The Doctor have an open marriage where they agree to sexual relationships even though married, that's really not surprising to me. Especially with the timey wimey-ness of their relationship.
