Amy, Rory, polls and fandom
Dec. 18th, 2011 03:27 pmOf course, I tried to post this news several days ago, but since I couldn't do an LJ cut at the time (and still can't - thank you once again for the excellent service Livejournal), I had to delete the entry as it was still considered "spoilery" at the time.
I figured that since everybody probably knows now, it's probably okay to post this without a cut, but in any case rather than mentioning the actual news, I will just link to it here and talk about it in the comments.
In related news, there is a poll here for your favourite ever companion. I don't normally get involved in pointless stuff like this, and far be it from me to influence people on how to exercise their democratic right to vote in internet polls, but I happen to know there are certain sections of fandom delighting in how the current results are "pissing off" large sections of fandom.
I'm not encouraging spite in fandom. Honestly. I'm really not. Don't go and vote for Amy out of spite. Seriously, don't.

Date: 2011-12-18 03:32 pm (UTC)From:Some people want them to have a happy ending because they really like them, but if I really like a character you want their exit to be dramatic, exciting and memorable, not cosy and dull.
And I think it probably is the right time for them to go. Two and a half seasons is half more than Rose got, which makes them the longest-lasting companions in nu-Who. The show is all about change, not about identifying a situation that works and sticking to it until it stops working.
