Hello and welcome to Moffat Era Who. As you may have noticed, this is a very lo-fi basic community at the moment. After looking at some of the blogs and communities scattered around the web, I thought it might be useful to have a community specifically for fans of the current era of Doctor Who (from 2010 onwards). And as you might have guessed, I haven't had a lot of experience running communities (or to be more accurate, none). So this is definitely a work in progress.
Want to help develop this community? There are various ways you can help:
1. Graphics. As you can see, we're currently using a basic Livejournal layout. Have a few minutes to spare on creating a new one? Go for it.
2. Moderators. Want to volunteer? Any advice to offer? Get in touch.
3. Adverts. You may have noticed this is not a paid account, which means the community still has adverts. If you want to change this, the best way is to use this community. I'm more than happy to upgrade to a paid account if a significant level of interest in this community is shown.
4. Get involved. This is a brand new community. The first members of this community will play a vital role in shaping what it looks like. So post a comment, start a topic, show off your icons and get involved.
Off we go then...

Date: 2011-05-11 10:13 pm (UTC)From:Oh, also, maybe to get people involved initially, start a discussion? Maybe like a Moffat vs. RTD eras, and why exactly people prefer one to the other. To be honest, I've only vaguely convinced myself I prefer Moffat's, and I'm still not sure why, so it'd be good to see opinions for and against each era.

Date: 2011-05-11 10:21 pm (UTC)From:You're welcome to become a moderator (god knows I have no clue what I'm doing - in fact my basis on trusting you for this is that you have introduced me to the acronym "OMGWTFBBQ"). Let me know if it's a definite yes. Although if you wanna hang back and see how it goes, that's cool too.
"it's easy enough to find a premade layout that'd suit the comm."
Easy enough for people who know what they're doing, I'd imagine. ;-)
"Oh, also, maybe to get people involved initially, start a discussion?"
Oh. Yes. So obvious it's brilliant. Gonna do that now.

Date: 2011-05-11 10:43 pm (UTC)From:One thing that concerns me is that I don't want this to turn into an outright RTD-hating comm. Saying "I didn't like that" is one thing, but I've seen fans elsewhere saying they want to stab him into the eyes and I'd like to stay away from inciting bodily harm on famous scriptwriters.
How about you have a look at the user info, let me know if you think those rules are about right and if you think any extras are needed, then let me know if you're still interested in moderating?

Date: 2011-05-11 10:44 pm (UTC)From:It'd be lovely to be a mod, but could I be the quiet one who hangs around in the back and chimes in with random helpful info or to kick somebody in the leg and run away? (I'll limit this last one to drama queens and troublestarters and such, honest).
Well, if you'd like me to put in a layout, I can do that no problem. I can link you to a good place to find a layout, here (http://fruitstyle.livejournal.com/tag/layouts) - if you pick one, I can probably jam it in.

Date: 2011-05-11 10:57 pm (UTC)From:For the moment, posts don't have to be approved before appearing, but if things get rowdy that will obviously have to be reviewed.
I guess we should probably start with something blue (coz.. you know.. the tardis and that). What you think to these:

Date: 2011-05-11 10:59 pm (UTC)From:As I've said above, posts aren't approved before posting at the moment, but we might have to review if it gets crazy. Also, you are a moderator rather than a maintainer because I haven't done my research and found out the difference yet.

Date: 2011-05-11 11:17 pm (UTC)From:I wouldn't advise setting anyone as a maintainer unless you really trust them. Maintainers are basically you - you can do anything with the community, delete it, remove you as the boss, etc. So I wouldn't add anyone as a maintainer unless you know you can trust them.
I like the blue idea, plus I feel Moffat's era is very blue-y, no? The cloud one is pretty, but I maybe prefer the second one... or there's this one (http://fruitstyle.livejournal.com/17781.html) or this one (http://fruitstyle.livejournal.com/26987.html)? Maybe a little plain? Or completely opposite direction and shove in some pink or something (http://fruitstyle.livejournal.com/16428.html), haha.

Date: 2011-05-12 03:04 am (UTC)From:Just a thought, but maybe we can do a Saturday post where we can all gush so it's all in one place? Also, I don't know if it's completely relevant, but if we wanted to do a weekly post where we collect the songs used on the confidential episode, I'd definitely be willing to organize that. ^_^

Doesn't look too bad, but it's not full of awesomeness either. I tried adding a header using this image, but it wasn't working:

I give up tonight, feel free to keep playing around if you like, just leave it readable (and no kittens or anything, obviously).

Date: 2011-05-13 04:22 am (UTC)From:I definitely think we should set a rule about spoilers(!), though. Definitely have everything behind a cut if someone is doing a review. I'm pretty sure that as a moderator, once you have to review cuts, you'll be seeing behind the cut, so I'd watch out for that.

Date: 2011-05-13 05:04 am (UTC)From:I think you need to create a rules post and also an FAQ section, where you have clearly listed the spoiler policy, what needs to go behind a cut (I'd recommend large amounts of pictures/icons, spoilers, reviews, large amounts of text too need to go behind one).
What is the policy on fan fiction, fan works etc? Can recs be posted any day of the week, or only on certain days? I have a few ideas from Sherlock communities I'm a part of if you want more ideas, I'm happy to launch them out there.
Sorry if I went into too much detail.
