If I'm honest, I don't particularly care whether it's "faithful" or not. Continuity is not something I get too hung up on (I don't care, for example, if Moffat decides to subtly drop the "thirteen regenerations per timelord" thing without any further explanation). It's just the fact I can't see this film being any good.
And the Harry Potter thing... I don't mean to diss anyone's favourite films/books, but the films in particular very much represent an outsider's view of what Britain is like. I'm not saying all Americans are automatically going to misunderstand the "British sensibility" (whatever that means), but if we're going to assume that Americans CAN indeed work on a British property like Who, let's not put up Harry Potter as evidence.
